Clinique high impact extreme volume mascara

Make up products with super long names just shouldn't be allowed.
While I don't particularly consider £17 to be a lot to pay for this new Clinique mascara, I know I could have bought two or maybe three, depending on where I shopped for the same price, so unless I end up totally falling in love with it, this probably won't be a repurchase.
I haven't seen very many reviews for Clinique's most recent mascara launch, and as I have it I thought why not just review it?!
Although I bought this several weeks ago, I've only just gotten round to blogging about it because I've been trying to not have numerous mascaras on the go at once.

Clinique describe it as;
"a does-it-all mascara. Creates ultra-thick and extreme volumised lashes through a new formula and unique brush, allowing precise application."

Now I don't know about anyone else but I've never been able to tell extreme differences between high end and high street formulas. Granted I've not tried all that many from the higher price tag collections, but for me it's all about the mascara wand, how much it might smudge or clump, and how well it layers. I have pretty long eyelashes, as people frequently like to tell me, so I tend to have 2-3 layers of mascara on to match volume to the length.

The colour I have is 'extreme black', and I have to say it isn't my favourite mascara that I've ever used. I don't think I was even expecting magical things due to its price tag.That's not to say that I dislike it, but I think it's quite a wet formula, which means that I have to wait longer than normal to apply the next layer of mascara. I'm not very patient, and I'm normally in a hurry to put on make up, so more often than not I ended up messing up the second layer slightly. On the plus side, I've yet to have it come out clumpy.

Another thing that I think the slightly wet formula did was make my eyelashes group together more than they normally would, particularly on my bottom lashes. I'm not really a fan of that look, and it's a pain to have to try and sort out.

On a more positive note, I really love the wand. I'm not fussy about having a plastic wand rather than one of bristles, and I found that the shape of the wand was super good at getting into the corner of my eyes and right down to the root. The wand does also have gaps between the bristle parts on the wand, which can be seen slightly in the photo above. Not sure what their function is, though. I'm also a fan of the packaging, which is fairly chunky, which makes it really nice to hold.

Overall, I've liked this product, but I can't say that I'll repurchase- £17 is just a little too much for me to constantly spend on something I'm not a huge fan of. For now, I'll stick to Clinique's amazing foundations and lip products.

Have you tried this mascara yet, or is it not for you?
